Applying for VET FEE-HELP
How do I apply for VET FEE-HELP?
You only need to apply for VET FEE-HELP once. Unless you choose to pay fees upfront in following semesters, the original application form you have completed for a VET course of study will be used to manage payment of your fees using VET FEE-HELP in all following semesters.
Both new and continuing students will receive enrolment information in an electronic enrolment pack sent to their listed email address.
Your enrolment pack will contain:
- Information to assist you in making a choice about your payment options, including VET FEE-HELP
- A Web Enrolment Form (WEF) containing the Delivery Package and Authorisation Code required to access your VET course of study through Student Self Service
- The timetable/s necessary in making your class selections
- The 2010 Student Enrolment Guide
- A VET FEE-HELP information booklet.
Please ensure you are enrolled prior to start of study (Monday 12 July) to secure your place in your program.
The following payment options are available through Student Self Service:
- Enrol and pay online using the secure payment site.
- Enrol and pay within 24 hours via BPAY, payment at Australia Post (APAY), or in person at the Student Service Centre.
- Enrol and defer payment through the selection of the FEE-HELP payment option. Southbank Institute will verify whether you have previously submitted an eligible Request for VET FEE-HELP Assistance form, or whether this needs to be mailed to you for completion prior to nominated Southbank Institute dates.
Additional copies of the Request for VET FEE-HELP Assistance form are available from the Student Service Centre, Level 1, C Block.
If your FEE-HELP balance is insufficient to cover the cost of all VET units of study in to which you are enrolling, you must pay the balance using another method of payment (e.g. credit card, eftpos, BPAY, cheque or cash).
Please note, you are only able to use VET FEE-HELP to pay for eligible VET courses of study, and then only if you are an Australian citizen, or a permanent humanitarian visa holder for the duration of study. Other methods of payment must be used if you are enrolling in a government subsidised course, or do not meet eligibility requirements.
Census Date
The day after Census Date is the day your debt for the semester is transferred to the Australian Tax Office (ATO). In order to use VET FEE-HELP to pay your semester fees you must submit your Request for VET FEE-HELP Assistance form to Southbank Institute by this date.
Whether you choose to pay your tuition fees upfront, apply for VET FEE-HELP, or a combination of both, you are required to finalise all of these arrangements by the Census Date.
For further information regarding your Census Date please see the Southbank Institute's VET FEE-HELP Fee Schedule Semester 2, 2010 (PDF, 846KB)
Commonwealth Assistance Notices (CAN)
If you have submitted an Application for VET FEE-HELP Assistance, and elected to use VET FEE-HELP to pay all or part of your fees, you will be provided with a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) within 28 days of the Census Date. The CAN is a summary of your enrolment and associated fees for that enrolment period, including:
- Units in which you are enrolled
- Tuition fees against these units
- The total VET FEE-HELP assistance you are requesting for the semester
- The 20% loan fee, charged by the Federal Government for administration of your VET FEE-HELP debt
It is important to check all details on your CAN carefully. Please notify Southbank Institute of any errors within 14 days of the issue date on the CAN.
