Topic 5 Creating Reflection
Exercise Lounge_materials_room.max

This exercise we will take the chair we used in the last exercise, duplicate it and call up a library item. Then we can add some walls and a floor.
1. Open your chair from the last exercise. Select all the objects and then select group from the pulldown menu then group from the menu, this will link the objects together. Use the move command and hold down the shift key to duplicate the chair. Use group, open to select the cushions and re-arrange as shown. Use the box command to create the walls and the floor.
2. Firstly create the floor material as you did for the fabric. You can see the bitmap I used in the dialogue box above. Use the sample type button to change from a sphere to a box (highlighted top right), it displays flat objects better. Don't forget to remove the Real-World scale and change the tiling to 1.0 as we did in the last exercise.

3. Now we can add the reflection to the material using the "Maps" rollout. Expand the Maps rollout as shown above, select the "None" button next to the Reflection Map, from the dialogue box choose "Raytrace". This will add the Raytracer parameters to the Materials editor shown below.

4. Change the Trace Mode to just Reflection (no 1) then use the go to parent button (no 2) to get back to the Maps rollout. You can know adjust the level of reflection, start with 25. Render and check the results.

5. Add some household items to finish the scene.
