Students and staff of Southbank Institute of Technology may borrow upon presentation of their current Southbank Institute of Technology identification card. Students from other TAFE institutes can enquire about our reciprocal borrowing scheme.

Associate Borrowers
Students from outside TAFE Queensland and members of the public may join the library as an associate borrower. Associate membership allows you to borrow books from Southbank Institute of Technology campus libraries but does not provide you with internet, email or access to the library's research databases. Costs are A$55.00 per year for past students and staff, and A$155.00 per year for private individuals. Fees are payable at Student Services. The receipt must be presented to library staff with an associate borrower application form (available from the loans desk). All amounts are GST inclusive.

Contact the library to renew your loans by the due date. The majority of items may be renewed twice, unless the item has been reserved by another borrower.
Borrowers can also renew online through the library catalogue. Student number and a PIN number is required for access to this service. If you have forgotten your PIN, contact the library by phone, or email, or by chat through Ask a Librarian.
To renew your loans online:
- Access your borrower information from the library catalogue as above.
- Click on the My Details tab.
- Enter your student number and four digit PIN in the login box.
- Under 'Account Overview', click Items Out.
- Click in the box next to the item/s you wish to renew.
- Click on the Renew button.
- Your new due dates will be listed and the amount of times you have renewed the item/s.
Reservations
Borrowers may place their own reserves using the library catalogue for a particular title out on loan or available at another campus. A pickup campus must be nominated. To place a reservation through the catalogue, click on the 'Request item' button that appears with each record retrieved.
Each borrower will need to know their student number and PIN number when placing reserves. Borrowers can nominate their own PIN number (please see loans desk staff). If you have forgotten your PIN, contact the library by phone, or email, or by chat through Ask a Librarian.
Borrower record
Borrowers can access their own borrower record to view personal details, loans and reservations. Borrowers need to know their student number and PIN number to view their own borrower record from the library catalogue. From the library catalogue page, select the My Details tab.
If you have forgotten your PIN, contact the library by phone, or email, or by chat through Ask a Librarian. If you know your PIN and wish to change it, access My Details > Profile through the library catalogue.
Overdues
If items are not returned or renewed by the due date, an overdue notice will be issued. If a borrower does not return the overdue items, an invoice will be issued. This will include:
- Replacement cost of each item; and
- A A$27.50 processing charge per item (GST inclusive); and
- A non-refundable A$22.00 administration charge (GST inclusive).
Borrowers returning overdue invoiced items will be required to pay the A$22.00 (GST inclusive) administration charge. Failure to pay the A$22.00 (GST inclusive) will result in the loss of library borrowing privileges and course results may be withheld. The student will also be unable to re-enrol in further studies until the debt is cleared.
