Name:

Norman Price

What is your teaching focus?

Acting/Theatre Studies

Where did you grow up?

Nambour, Queensland

I learnt everything I know about this subject from ...

30 years professional experience as actor, director, playwright, and theatre scholar. This experience has been gained in Australia, Europe and the United States.

What has been your career highlight so far?

Having my plays, Barking Dogs and The Other Mother performed in Europe and the publication of my plays, Barking Dogs, Urban Dingoes, and Kitchen Diva.

How do you keep at the top of your field?

As an artist I continue to teach, engage in ongoing research, create new work, and traveling to Europe and Africa.

What makes the course you teach so special?

Our facilities at SBIT are of an excellent professional standard and are regarded very highly within the arts community. Our course is recognized by theatre practitioners as a major force in national actor training programs. We have developed a strong performance culture that is rigorous, progressive, and unique within tertiary institutions. The course thoroughly interrogates the relationships between theory and practice.

What gives students in your course 'the edge' when they graduate?

A unique experience in the practice of performance. The fact that our students undergo a hands-on training program within the course sets them apart. An important issue is that all our teachers are professional working artists.

The best thing about teaching is ...

Knowing that you have offered students a life-changing experience. Providing them with skills and knowledge that they can take into what they choose to do in life. The teaching assists students to move beyond arts practice into other career opportunities.

The next year at Southbank Institute ...

A rich and rewarding experience for both staff and students. The programs offered are of world standard and the facilities are quite extraordinary. We look forward to the future with a great deal of energy directed towards an even richer teaching environment.
