More sparkling career choices at Southbank
9 January 2012
Southbank Institute is a proven leader in jewellery excellence and education.
Last year Southbank Institute played a vital role in the educational journeys of 47 jewellery apprentices, 12 of which completed their studies in 2011, and celebrated the success of a number of student award-wins, at both state and national levels.
To provide further course choice and flexibility, and create an increased interest in the jewellery industry, Southbank Institute is in the final stages of confirming a new course option for 2012.
The proposed Certificate II Jewellery Manufacture program, likely to commence in Semester 2, 2012, will provide successful graduates with the additional benefit of a year off their jewellery apprenticeship, should they wish to progress to this career option upon completion of the Certificate II program.
The Certificate II in Jewellery Manufacture will develop skills and knowledge in the tools, techniques, basic processes and procedures of jewellery fabrication as well as providing an introduction to the aspects of design and technical drawing. Students will acquire foundation skills and knowledge for the manufacture of jewellery.
Southbank Institute is the only public provider of jewellery and watchmaking training in Queensland.
Recent student successes include multiple award wins at events such as the annual Queensland Jewellery Apprentice Awards and the inaugural Australian Jewellery Students and Apprentices (AJSA) awards in Sydney.
Southbank Institute currently offers the following learning opportunities in the jewellery field:
- Certificate III in Jewellery - Apprenticeship MEM30605
- Diploma of Visual Arts[- for Year 11 and 12 STEP Students] 39227QLD-2
Those interested in the proposed Certificate II Jewellery Manufacture are encouraged to keep an eye out on SBIT’s website (www.southbank.edu.au).
